When you need this visit
Patients with a tracheostomy need regular suction, a clean dressing around the stoma and a tube change as advised by their doctor. Our nurses do this at home with care and teach the family the daily routine.

What happens during the visit
- CheckNurse checks breathing, oxygen level and the doctor’s advice.
- SuctionSecretions cleared so the airway is open.
- ChangeOld tube removed and new tube placed with sterile technique, when a change is advised.
- Dress & teachStoma cleaned, new dressing and tie applied, and the family shown the routine.

Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to change a tracheostomy tube at home?
A routine change can be done at home when the doctor has advised it and the stoma is well formed. The first change after surgery is usually done in hospital.
Can you also give regular suction?
Yes. Book On Call visits, or a nurse on day, night or 24-hour duty for patients who need frequent suction.
